In late March, Bedford was contacted by the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services. The Ohio Department of Youth Services is a juvenile correction system for the State of Ohio currently operating three separate locations, one located in Cuyahoga County. They are not affiliated with Cuyahoga County’s operations. The Ohio DYS have been located in Highland Hills for roughly 50 years. They are proposing to relocate their operations which would include 300 + staff who oversee close to 100 juveniles to the 38 acre property located at 17500 Rockside Road. The State is estimating the project to cost $150 million.
The City has been working to obtain as much factual information regarding this project / end user as possible. The State DYS will be presenting information to the City at a public meeting that is scheduled for Monday April 25th at 6:00pm at City Hall. This meeting will also be streamed via the City’s YouTube channel. The City will review all of the facts and information following Monday’s public meeting.
