CPR, AED and First Aid

The City of Bedford Fire Department offers American Heart Association courses to its residents and businesses. These courses are currently taught using the AHA’s HeartCode (see below) format. Please contact the Bedford Fire Department with questions or to schedule any of the following classes:
CPR
This course trains participants to give CPR and use and AED.
First Aid
This course trains participants in the lifesaving skills of first aid.
First Aid CPR AED (together)
This course trains participants in the lifesaving skills of first, CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job or other requirements, or for anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

American Heart Association HeartCode
Resuscitation training can be a time and logistics challenge for healthcare organizations, instructors, and students. HeartCode blended learning from the AHA offers options for high-quality resuscitation training that provide more control of time and resources.
HeartCode courses combine online learning with hands-on CPR skills practice to ensure competency. Students complete the online portion of the course at their own pace, anytime and anywhere they have Internet access. Students then attend a hands-on skills session with an AHA Instructor or voice-assisted manikin (VAM), where available, to ensure CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) skills competence.
HeartCode’s lifelike animations and eSimulations allow students to treat patients virtually and receive immediate feedback. HeartCode’s online learning format improves retention* and helps students develop critical thinking skills they can use at the patient’s bedside.
Most importantly, HeartCode delivers high-quality training that prepares students for real resuscitation events and increases their confidence for responding in the most stressful emergency situations.
